WASHINGTON – A new poll shows that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and other congressional leaders all have high job disapproval numbers.

In McConnell’s case, 46 percent disapprove of the way the Kentuckian is handling his job, compared to 27 percent who approve, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll.

Republicans are evenly split: 37 percent disapprove of McConnell, while 36 percent approve, the survey finds.

Democrats, of course, feel more strongly: 51 percent disapprove of the Senate GOP leader, while 22 percent approve.

Age, household income and political philosophy did not matter: more Americans in all categories say they disapprove of the way McConnell is handling his job than say they approve, the poll says.

McConnell is seeking re-election next year in Kentucky.

As for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., 52 percent of Americans disapprove of him, versus 27 percent who approve.

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has a 58-26 disapproval margin, while House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., comes in at 55-31 disapprove/approve.

“In Washington today, it comes down to who the voters dislike the least,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute in Connecticut.

The survey was conducted Nov. 6-11, involving 2,545 registered voters nationwide. The margin of error is plus or minus 1.9 percentage points.
